Pervasive Developmental Disorder Not Otherwise Specified

Again we find that a set of disorders requires an "other" category into which difficult cases can be placed. One kind of case that is placed here is "Atypical Autism," involving severe and pervasive impairments, particularly in social interaction, that don't quite fit the criteria for Autism, Schizotypal Personality Disorder, Schizophrenia, or Avoidant Personality Disorder. In addition to the deficits in social interaction, markedly stereotypic behaviors may justify this diagnosis.
